The Ballinabranna Group Water Scheme was set up in the 1960s as a private water scheme to provide water to the Ballinabranna, Raheendoran, Ballygowan, Rathornan, Tomard and Ballyhide areas. It became a Co-Operative Society in 1998 and provides water to about 380 members from Ballyhide in the North to Rathvinden in the South through approx 20 km of pipe. Water used by the members is metered and members charged in accordance with the amount they use. Everyone with a connection is automatically a shareholder of the Society. The Society is managed by a voluntary committee elected by the shareholders at the Annual General Meeting in February.
